Who we are

Allies of Hispanic Culture, Education and Science Foundation (AHCES) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation organized in the United States exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to fund Hispanic cultural, educational or scientific projects and institutions.

Donations made to AHCES are tax-deductible in the United States within the limits prescribed by law.

AHCES is governed by a Board of Directors which has ultimate independent control, authority and discretion with regard to its assets. The Board of Directors exercises independent decision-making in carrying out its charitable goals. It also oversees the use of funds provided to the charitable institutions it supports.

The Board of Directors takes utmost care in the good governance of the institution and stewardship of its resources and acts with sincere dedication in furthering its mission. The members of the Board of Directors are:

Mr. Gil is the founder of AHCES and a Senior Counsel of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. He has over 30 years of experience advising non-profit and other international institutions. Mr. Gil is a former head of Davis Polk’s Corporate Practice, served on the firm’s Management Committee, headed its Spain and Latin America practice and founded the firm’s Madrid Office. He is a Trustee of the Hispanic Society of America Museum and Library, a Director of the Finca Vigia Foundation and serves on the Advisory Board of Uría Menéndez. Andres is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University and received his law degree from New York University School of Law. He also serves as President of AHCES.

Founder of AHCES and a Senior Counsel of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.

Dr. Arguimbau Scott is the president of Arguimbau Co., Inc., agents, importers and consultants to the food industry. She is a Trustee of the Hispanic Society of America Museum and Library and a graduate of Skidmore College. She was a Fulbright Scholar at La Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia and earned a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from New York University. Mariette also serves as Treasurer and Secretary of AHCES.

Mariette Arguimbau Scott

President, Arguimbau & Co., Inc.

Mr. Bateson has over 30 years of work experience including as a Managing Director of JPMorgan Chase. He is a Managing Director of Golden Seeds, an investment consortium that invests in early-stage women-led businesses. Doug is a Board Member of Credenza Innovations, Inc. and a member of the Advisory Board of Aerofarms LLC. His non-profit board memberships include Environmental Advocates of New York, the Open Space Institute and the Tahawus Club. Doug is a cum laude graduate of Harvard University and has an M.B.A. degree from Boston University.

The Board has appointed Board Observers who may attend its meetings and provide advice and expertise as solicited by the Board.  Board Observers have no voting rights.

Board members, Board Observers, volunteers, and employees are required to comply with a Code of Ethics, including a Conflict of Interests Policy, adopted by the Board of Directors.
